Kansas City Travel
Today when a vacationer or business traveler arrives in Kansas
City, the first thing they think of is eating a big, juicy,
sizzling steak. Truly, this city serves up the best beef in the
country and you'll never be hard-pressed to find a steakhouse in
and around Kansas City.
Once the gateway for covered wagon-traveling pioneers who were
heading west to such faraway places as Oregon and California,
Kansas City is indeed proud of its rich historical heritage. Make
a stop at the National Frontier Trails Museum to learn more about
America's brave pioneers. The Cave Spring Interpretive Center
nature park and historic site also allows visitors to see what
life was like on the historic Santa Fe Trail.
Another interesting historical site with a different twist is the
Jesse James Farm and Museum. Visit the restored home where the
infamous bank robber and his brother Frank grew up and enjoy
learning some interesting facts about the duo and their role in
Kansas City history.
The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is probably the most-visited
cultural attraction in Kansas City. It's home to a collection
that spans the centuries and the continents but is especially
well-known for its Henry Moore bronzes and extensive collection
of Asian art.
If you travel to the city's historic jazz district, you'll kind
two museums in one - both unique and worth a visit. The Negro
Leagues Baseball Museum and the American Jazz Museum both honor
the city's large African-American community and pay tribute to
those who had a hand in advancing their sport or art form.
Travel to the city's Union Station area and you'll find plenty of
activities to fill your day. This restored train station is not
only home to tons of stores and restaurants but it also houses
Science City, a hands-on interactive museum that prompts children
to have fun while exploring the fascinating world of science.
Also in Union Station, you'll find the Kansas City Museum, with
excellent regional history displays, dioramas, and a small
planetarium.
Travel just a short distance from the city to the town of
Independence and explore the life of President Harry S. Truman.
Tour the simple Truman Home, where the 33rd president and his
wife Bess lived before and after their stint in Washington D.C.,
and visit the Truman Presidential Museum and Library to learn
more about his life.
