Golf Vacations & Top Golf Resorts

If you love golf, you've probably traveled to particular destinations just to take advantage of some of the world's best courses. Golfers are a different breed of traveler; content to spend the days playing on various courses in and around their chosen destination and using the evenings to relax, partake of a good meal, and otherwise prepare themselves for yet another day on the links.

For golfers, there are a few destinations that are clearly the best places to travel if you want to make golf the center of your vacation. Consider, for example, the Phoenix, Arizona area, which boasts more than 200 courses, some of them championship courses that are continually touted for their fine quality. Thanks to this huge number, golfers will find courses that fit just about all skill levels and excellent pros are on hand to help you learn the game or tweak your existing skills.

The courses in Phoenix are designed by some of the greatest in the business, including Robert Trent Jones, Jr., Jack Nicklaus, and Arnold Palmer. The terrain varies as well, with some courses being the quintessential Arizona desert course while others seem downright tropical.

If tropical is indeed what you're looking for in a golf course, head to Hawaii. Oahu is home to the largest number of courses - about three dozen - but you'll also find quite a few on the Big Island and Maui as well as a handful of courses on Kauai, Molokai, and Lanai. Like Arizona, many of the courses here are world-renowned and have often been used to host PGA championships.

Las Vegas is another great choice for golfing aficionados and throughout the last two decades, the city and surrounding areas have added a number of excellent courses. Some are quite indicative of the desert while other courses are lush and green, with waterfalls and other amenities that make them a delight for the eye as well as an ideal place to practice the sport. Of course, the close proximity to the glittering Las Vegas nightlife makes this an exciting golfing destination as well.

On the east coast of the United States, Myrtle Beach is the preferred locale for avid golfers. Located in eastern South Carolina, this area has long been a mecca for golf worshippers. Myrtle Beach and its surrounding areas boast about 100 courses, ranging from "quite challenging" to "perfect for beginners." The pretty beaches here also make this a fun place to relax and Myrtle Beach has recently garnered a reputation as the "Branson of the East", so if you like Country-Western music, this is the place for you.

Further south, the Sunshine State of Florida offers wonderful courses up and down both coasts. You can golf here just about all year long and throughout the state, there are more than 1,000 courses from which to choose! The Disney-built courses in Orlando are some of the best in the state and places like Marco Island and Naples on the Gulf Coast continue to build some of the state's finest courses. On the Atlantic Coast, golfers can locate a ton of courses, from Amelia Island in the North all the way down to Miami.

In many of these destinations, golfers can find travel companies that specialize in golf vacations. These experts will determine which courses are right for you, schedule tee times, locate accommodations, and in some cases, even schedule your evening activities.
